China-Arab cooperation to improve prevention and control of foot-and-mouth disease

Foot-and-mouth disease (FDM) is an acute, heat, and highly contagious disease caused by foot-and-mouth disease virus, which is a hoofed animal such as pig, cow, and sheep. It is very contagious and can be shared by humans and animals. Once it occurs, it spreads extremely fast and is difficult to control and eliminate. There are as many as 70 susceptible animals. Adult animals can recover, and young animals often die from invisible symptoms. The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) ranks it as the first list of animal diseases listed in the category A, and is highly valued by veterinary organizations in all countries.

In May 2012, China and Argentina reached an agreement on the prevention and control of foot-and-mouth disease. In the minutes of the talks between the Chinese and Arab agriculture ministers, China-Africa animal husbandry cooperation will bring animal health and animal husbandry to the two countries and the world. Industry development has made important contributions. To this end, it supports the joint efforts of Argentine companies and a Chinese company to strengthen the ability to prevent and control foot and mouth disease in other countries in China and other regions. The two companies are BOGO of Argentina and Shanghai Haili Biotechnology Co., Ltd. of China. In the same year, the two companies jointly established Yangling Jinhai Biotechnology Co., Ltd., which also became the only joint venture in China to produce foot-and-mouth disease vaccine. The minutes of the China-Arab Agricultural Joint Commission meeting signed in November 2014 and the China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation Strategic Action Plan signed in May 2017 all expressed support for the project.

From the groundbreaking of the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine production project in May 2013, and the official launch of the product in August 2017, Jinhai Bio has been flat in the past few years, but the results are doomed to be extraordinary.

First of all, the partner BOGO has 70 years of experience in animal vaccine production and is the largest veterinary drug manufacturer in South America. Its products are exported to 11 countries and regions such as the United States, Canada, Brazil, Uruguay, Taiwan and South Korea. Secondly, the company is a high-purification foot-and-mouth disease inactivated vaccine designated by the Ministry of Agriculture. The production process adopts a series of current international advanced technologies to ensure the efficiency, safety, stability and purity of the vaccine. Finally, in the process of product development and listing, Jinhai Bio has applied for and obtained 16 patents.
